Small Groups

Meaningful Conversation.

Real Connection.

Caring Community.

What are Sanctuary Small Groups?

Our small groups are a chance for spiritual reflection and deeper connection, while exploring the topics and conversations that matter most. Participating means a commitment to listening and speaking with care and attention, to being authentically present, and to developing a deeper sense of meaning and spiritual community.

When do they meet?

Sessions open up every fall, winter, and spring, and generally meet twice a month in-person or online. Each group meets 6-7 times to allow for a deeper trust and connection to build over the course of the season.

What happens at a small group meeting?

In each session, facilitators choose a spiritual topic of interest to the group. We open the circle and check in, sharing briefly anything we need to leave behind to be fully present. Then we read quotes and short passages to stimulate our hearts and minds on the evening’s topic. We start the discussion with “popcorn style” sharing from our own experiences, once per person without response or cross-talk. Then we take a brief break and return for a second round of conversation with more response and cross-talk.

What should I expect of others in my Small Group? What will they expect of me?

Each group makes its own covenant by agreeing on a set of expectations and boundaries about confidentiality, deep listening, speaking from your own experience and making space for everyone to share.
